Hiring checklist: plumbers
- Ask for their licence. Plumbing is a compulsory trade in Ontario. Ask for the plumber’s certificate of qualification, especially for bigger jobs.
- Understand the pricing. Ask whether it’s a flat price or hourly, and what after-hours or emergency rates look like before they start.
- Ask for a camera inspection on drain problems. For recurring clogs or backups, a drain camera shows the real cause instead of guessing.
- Get permits for big changes. Moving fixtures, new bathrooms and backwater valves can need a permit. A good plumber will tell you up front.
